How it works

  1. Start free for 14 days. Then $7 a month, and you can cancel anytime.
  2. Tell us your country, your Japanese level and the kind of work you want. It takes about 30 seconds, and you can change it whenever you like.
  3. Every Sunday we custom build your Radar around those answers: the deadlines open to your passport, jobs in the work you picked with the ones that fit your Japanese first, and what to do that week. All of it to help you get to Japan.

From John

I read the official sources every week, work out which windows are genuinely open to someone applying from outside Japan, and send what I find. This is a real issue, so you can see what the Radar looks like before you pay for it.

JET Programme

2027 departure

A year or more teaching English in a public school (ALT) or working in a local government office (CIR), placed anywhere in Japan by the Japanese government.

The catch

You need the bachelor's degree by departure and citizenship of a participating country. Permanent residents are out; the UK bars anyone who lived in Japan six or more of the past ten years, the US six or more years since 2016.

This week

Applications are open. The UK deadline is Thursday, November 5, and the U.S. and Canada close on Friday, November 13 (Canada at 3pm Eastern), so start this week: references and your transcript take the longest. Applying from anywhere else? Your country's JET office sets its own date, so check its site.

ECC

USA sessions: New York 24-25 Oct, Houston 28-29 Oct, Los Angeles 1-2 Nov

Over 400 native English teachers across more than 140 schools. Almost all recruitment happens outside Japan, at in-person sessions in Australia, Canada, the UK and the USA.

CountryApplication window
CanadaOpen now, closes Nov 6
United StatesOct to Nov

The catch

Sessions are in person only, with no online route, so you have to physically reach one in Australia, Canada, the UK or the USA. They will not interview anyone already in Japan on a tourist or working holiday visa, and they ask you to have at least ¥300,000 available for the move.

This week

Check the country pages for the next session in a city you can reach, then apply through the pre-check form well before it.
